St. George Society Social.

The Royal Society of Sr. George. Wellington, held its August social last night. There was a record attendance, and an excellent programme was enjoyed. Au extract from a “Midsummer Night’s Dream” was played by the fol-lowing'!—-Airs. Ross (Puck), Mr. W. D. Phillips (Bottom), Mrs. C. G. Bloore (Quince), Airs. Bagnall (Fluto), Air. Nichol (Snout) and Air. S. Alcl/ean (Snug). Other items included solos by Airs. Palmer, Airs. Martell and Air. Porter, ami by the “Harmony Four.” An inspiring address on the "Sentiment of Patriotism,” given by Professor T. A. Hunter, was the feature of the evening. Air. T. Hunt presided and the evening concluded with the hearty singing of “Rule Brittania.” Theosophical Women’s Group.

There was a large attendance at the monthly meeting of the Theosophical Women’s Group, held yesterday afternoon in the Wellington Lodge Rooms, .Marion Street. The convener, Mrs. Al. Taylor, presided, and Mrs. J. Loach was hostess.

The hon. recording secretary, Aliss Al. Graham, advised that, she expects to be absent from AVellington shortly and Airs. Dulcia Ala'son was elected honorary corresponding secretary. Airs. Mason was also elected delegate representing the group on the National Council of Women.

Arrangements were completed for the next meeting, when a social afternoon will be held for members and friends; the speaker and guest of honour will be Aliss Emma Hunt, general secretary of the New Zealand section of the Theosophical Society. In the unavoidable absence of Air. IT. F. A r on Ilaast, who had been invited to address the group, Air. 0. E. A’ates gave a brief talk, on Pacific affairs, with special reference to the relations between New Zealand and the Pa n-American Un ion.

Wedding in Altiiio. A quiet wedding took place recently at. the home of Airs. P. O. Smith, Moanaroa, Akitio. when Air. John Morrison, Blairlogie was married Io Aliss Philippa Smith. The service was conducted by Canon Stevenson, of Dannevirke. The bride wore a saxe blue frock and hat to match and was escorted by her brother. Air. Bruce Smith. Air, Hugh Alorrison was best man. The health of the bride and bridegroom was proposed by Air. Frank Armstrong who knew three generations of both families. The bride’s mother was dressed in a black frock with hat to match and. Airs. Tomlinson, mother of the bridegroom, wore a cyclamen ensemble and a small hat.

W.D.F.U. in Carterton. The monthly meeting of the Carterton branch of (be Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union was held early in the month, Airs. 11. E. Ordish presiding. Mrs. L. Maitland gave a report of the Dominion conference. Another parcel of knitted comforts was handed in. Airs. 11. Hodder gave a detailed report of the woo] purchased by the branch and the made-up articles which have been handed in. X number of articles of clothing for refugees was also received from members.

Citizens’ Day Nurseries. In her report to the monthly meeting of the Citizens’ Day Nursery, Wellington, the matron described the enjoyment the new nursery was giving to staff and children alike. As the nursery is simply worked more time can bo devoted to the children than before. The atendance for the month was 610, fewer than usual because of the prevalence of colds. -Mrs. 11. IL Cornish and Aliss B. Cable were the Official visitors for the month, and derived great pleasure from their visits. Mrs. Norman thanked them for their Interest in the nursery. Gifts were acknowledged from Alesdames Norman, Cornish, Higgins and Clarke, Nurse Aulin and Misses Cable and June Brooke-Taylor; also monetary donations from the art. union (through the Alinister of Internal Affairs) and Alesdames H. F. Norman and D. Coutts,

Patriotic Effort. An enjoyable evening was spent recently by a number of Hutt A’alley Memorial Technical College students and teachers at the home of Air. and Airs. John Short, Rangiora. Street, Lower Hutt. The evening, which was arranged to collect funds for the patriotic appeal, was spent in games and dancing, the room being decorated with the college colours. The music was supplied by Mr. Pearce and Murray Smith. A buffet supper was served. The guests included: Air. and Airs. Huxtable, Mr. and Mrs. Short, Misses Doreen Bernhard, Merle Hawkins, Pat Lidston, Nola Carrol, Joan Neilson, Dell Rodewald, Daphne Pratt, Alaurcen Foreman, Joan Anderson, Phyllis Rodewald, Mavis Brodie.
