FINE FISHING IN NAPIER BAYS

Catch Of Over A Ton In One Trawl » Dominion Special Service. , NAPIER, February 10. Westerly winds have caused big shoals of fish to run into bays near Napier. In two nights a party of six Napier amateur fishermen; working with a flat-bottomed boat and a net, took more than 1000 fish. On Thursday night they landed 812 flatfish, nearly all of which were soles, and last night they petted 256 schnapper and 14 soles in one trawl. They had to strain every nerve to drag the net clear of the water with a load weighing over a ton. Some of the fish weighed 15 to 181 b. After carrying their catch over 150 yards of shingle beach and stacking them on a truck, the fishermen found they had a load measuring about the same as a cord of wood.
