HAWERA GALLOPS
Six-Furlong Trial By Winsome Lu Dominion Special Service HAVVERA, July 27. A six-furlong gallop by Winsome Lu, who is engaged at Awapuni, occupied the main interest on the llawera tracks this morning. The outside of the course proper was considerably drier than in recent weeks, though the going was still heavy. Student Price (Sexton) was not out to make time when running five furlongs in 1.15. lie has recovered from his leg injury and will be on hand at. New .Plymouth for the combined hunts meeting. With the assistance of Vai Pere (Graham) over the first three in 41, Winsome Lu (Riley) traversed six furlongs in 1.23. Race Away (Elower) was to have accompanied her over the last two . but lost considerable ground in the pick-up. Winsome Lu is a lazy worker, but she may run well on Saturday if a strong rider can be obtained. C. G. Goulsbro was to have piloted her but has now decided to attend the Christchurch Hunt fixture. Barry Boy (Cole) held the measure of Red Myosotis (Holland) at the end. of _a two-furlong sprint which occupied 26 2-5. The former has been responsible for rapid improvement in recent weeks. Mahaina (Sexton) and Bole Can (Holland) shaped satisfactorily in a sprint up the straight. An Illumination —Isolta novice (Chaplin) and a rising four-year-old gelding by Resinous—Gold Born (Graham), both under the care of their owner, B. La Pou pie. shaped creditably in their initial fast work when allowed to run along up thstraight. though both ran about a good deal. The former in particular is a bold type of galloper and is likely to make a name for himself on the racetrack.
