. CHRISTCHURCH. July 27. The Riccarton tracks were not opened this rrorriing, hut later in the day a sand track was made available, and several horses were given strong work oil it. Hie majority, however, were confined to roa<t exercise. - . It is hoped to open a grass track tor fast work tomorrow, and this will afford trainers a belated opportunity to give their horses some winding-up work for Salur day’s racing. The inside steeplechast course will also be open, and no doubt there will be some jumping. Second Innings, who is engaged in the Brabazon Handicap on Saturday, will not | )e (..pen out during tlie Grand National meeting. His acceptance for the Winter Cup and nominations for other events at the meeting miscarried in transit, and were received too late.
