HOSPITAL REFUSED IMPORT LICENCES
Board Protests To Minister
A protest has been made to the Minister of Health, Mr. Fraser, by the Wellington Hospital Board about the refusal of the Customs Department to issue import licences to the board for soda water syphons, table cutlery and maiigle felt. It was reported to the board on Thursday by the superintendent, Dr. A. R. Thorne, that licences for the second period (July-December) had been granted with the exceptions stated. With reference to the syphons, it would mean that the hospital soda water plant would be useless when present stocks of syphons, of which there were six months’ supplies, had been exhausted.
With regard to the table cutlery, tile board had previously imported direct from the Sheffield manufacturers, and stocks on hand were sufficient to last approximately three months.
There was sufficient mangle felt on hand to clothe the mangles once only, which would last for four months. A Wellington agent had been granted a licence, whereas the hospital had been declined one.
