USE OF HOSPITAL BOARD AREA

Children To Play Or Cars To Park?

The Wellington City Council is to be advised by the Wellington Hospital Board that the play area in Riddiford Street will be available till it imperative for the board to use it, when a month's notice will be given of intention to take over the property.

Mr. F. Castle said at Thursday's meeting of the board that, as it had been stated that the area was to be used for parking, it seemed obvious that the board had no real reason to state that it was using the area for hospital purposes. He questioned if it was the board’s duty to provide parking areas, and, in so doing, displace children from a play area.

The chairman, Mr. J. Glover, replied that it was perhaps not the board’s duty to provide a parking area; nor was It its duty to provide play areas. Tiie area would not be taken till it was imperative to do so. On Mrs. Knox Gilmer's motion it was decided to ask the Wellington City Council to supply a report on parking facilities in the hospital area.
