Annual Picnic At Titahi Bay The staff of the Marine Department, including the Wellington shipping office and the district inspection of machinery office, recently held their annual picnic at Titahi Bay. A committee under Mr. G. W. Weir made excellent arrangements for an enjoyable day, including ■ swimming, sports and tennis. In the afternoon a sports meeting was held on the beach, resulting as follows: — Men's 100yds.: J. Jenkins, 1; L. Carver, 2. Sack race (women) : Mrs. Steinmetz, 1; Miss I. Baker, 2. Sack race (men): J. C. Field. 1; D. E. Good, 2. Boys’ race: N. Smith, 1; J. Webling, 2. Girls, over 10: Jean Weir, 1; Iris Baker, 2. Girls, under 10: Ngaio Smith, 1; Zoo Curran. 2. Half-mile (men over 35), T. A. Cooper Cup: Captain W. Stuart, 1; IV. C. Smith, 2; Hit wicket (women) : Miss L. Parker, 1; Miss J. Francis, 2. Shoe race: I. Steinmetz and Mrs. Wilson. Cigarette race: F. Young and Miss M. Weir. Nail-driv-ing (women) : Misw I. Baker, 1; Miss B. Box, 2. Whistling race: Mrs. Steinmetz and Miss I. Baker. The Minister of Marine. Mr. Fraser, and Mrs. Fraser, aud party, visited the picnic grounds in the morning, and were the guests of the staff for lunch.
