BREAKING-UP CEREMONY

Chilton St. James hall, Lower Hutt, was tilled on Thursday nlglrt for the breaking-up ceremony of the school. The stage was decorated with a huge bowl of pink hydrangeas, foxgloves, and other pink-toned flowers. The principal, Miss Fitzgerald, expressed pleasure that pupils of the school not only read the classics extensively, but apparently enjoyed reading good literature generally. “The Rose and the Ring,” adapted from the story by Thackeray, presented by the boarders in character, was well .acted. The remainder of the programme comprised songs by the senior and junior girls and infants, items by the pipe band, aud the presentation of certificates by Miss Fitzgerald. The supper tables iu the dining-room were bright with pink, blue and mauve hydrangeas.
