Items At Christmas Party
The singing and dramatic circles of the AVellington central branch of the Townswomen’s Guild combined and held a highly successful Christmas party for guild members and their friends recently. The club rooms looked very festive with gay Christmas decorations and balloons, and the small tea-tables were daintily decked with roses and sweet-peas.
The guests were met on arrival by Airs. Alan Thompson and Airs. Kenneth Rowles, convenors of the two circles. The programme for the afternoon commenced with the singing of three delightful little songs by the singing circle under the leadership of Airs. K. Fowles, the following taking part: Alesdaines Andrews, St. Clare, Satlrerley, East, Williams, Pownall, Seaton, Campbell, Leaning, Scammell, AlcKendry and A. Thompson. Airs. AVilliams also gave a much-enjoyed elocutionary item.
Airs. Thompson introduced the guest of honour, Airs. Richard Bradley, winner of the recent “Dominion” aria contest, who sang two solos and was given a most enthusiastic welcome. Au ex-cellently-acted one-act pla.v was also given keen attention,' the following taking part: Alesdames I. Bagnall, K. Fowles, Fitt, Jesson, Washer, and Aliss Rita Luxford. Airs. Geo. • D. Cameron was the winner of the “lucky chair” competition. Two beautiful early Victorian posies were made and donated by Airs. R. Arlow, convenor of the gardening circle, one being presented to Airs. Bradley, and the other to Airs. James Pow, president of the AVellington central branch and Dominion president ot the Townswomen’s Guilds. Also at the official table with Airs. Pow were Airs. Knox Gilmer, Airs. L. Angus, vice-president, Airs. P. H. Kinsman, Dominion secretary, and Mrs. Richard Bradley. After the serving of a delicious afternoon tea, Christmas carols were sung, led by the singing circle, solo parts being sung by Alesdames Fowles, Satherley and Seaton. At the conclusion of the carols, Airs. James Pow heartily thanked Airs. Thompson and Airs. Fowles, and also the members of the two circles for a delightful entertainment and congratulated them on t he progress made during 1933. She wished all present the compliments of the season and hoped to see all members present when the guild met again in February.
