Party For Penwomen's Circle

The lounge of the Lyceum Club, Wellington, looked specially lovely recently whep Mrs. W. Bailey, leader of the penwomen’s circle, entertained circle members and friends at an afternoon Christmas party. Bowls of deep red roses, pastel-shaded irises and lupins, poppies and greenery made a lovely ■picture.

There was a short, programme of delightful music, those contributing being Mrs. Hector Gunn (solo pianist), Mrs. Schloss (soprano solos), and Miss Hyams (solo violin), air numbers being accompanied by Mrs. Gunn. Mrs. A. D. Kerr, M.A., recited a Kipling poem and Mrs. Gerald Lyon gave several charming stories in connexion with her recent visit to Singapore. A delightful afternoon tea was served from the Lyceum cake kitchen.

Among the guests were Mrs. F. A. Knight, Mrs. von Haast, Mrs. Willoughby, Mrs. Robieson, Mrs. Cooke, Mrs. Brangwin, Mrs. Watson, Mrs. Martin and Mrs. Henry. Mrs. von Haast conveyed a formal vote of thanks to the hostess at the conclusion of the party, and Mrs. Bailey thanked the artists. Returned Home Mrs. S. L. P. Free, Masterton, who visited Marlborough for the Tesehmaker —Davis wedding, has returned to the Wairarapa. Mr. and Mrs. David Millar, with their son and daughter, Mr. Ronald Millar, and Miss Marjorie Millar, Whakarongo, Palmerston North, ft-ho have been in Wellington for teu days, have returnd home. Going Abroad Mr. and Mrs. A. F. A. Woollams,' with their daughter, Miss Mary Woollams, will leave Wanganui on Monday for Auckland, to join the Awatea, which leaves on Tuesday for Sydney. They will spend a month's holiday in Australia.
