DAY NURSERIES
Children's Christmas Party And A Meeting
Airs. Clarke presided at the monthly meeting of the Citizens’ Day Nursery committee, Wellington, when there was a full attendance of members. Following the meeting a Christmas party was held for the children who were wearing gaily-coloured paper hats. Their tea-table was prettily decorated and dainties were served which had been made and provided by members of the committee.
The major attraction was the Christmas tree, the work of Aliss Townsend, which gave great joy to the children who chose the gifts they fancied from the Avonderful assortment of toys upon it.
Regret was expressed at the meeting of the committee at the death of Airs. Greville, who was one of the first and best friends of the nursery. Gifts were gratefully acknowledged from the following:—Lady Elliott, New Zealand Trawling Co., Air. Rod, Alesdames Kirk, Sievwright, Hutchison. Alantel, Norman, Buckley, Alitchell, Airs. Adamson, Paremata, Aliss Barnicoat, Aliss Barker, Smith Fdinily, a Christmas tree from Air. Mackenzie, Director of Reserves, Parisian Cake Shop, Junior Girls’ Red Cross, Alount Cook school.
Donations were received from Airs. Lowell-Pinkerton, Alessrs. Hott and Magnus, The Commercial Travellers Club, directors of the Rotary Club and the Traffic Inspectors’ General and Social Club. New Nursery. AA’hen Alesdames Norman and Coutts, of the Citizens’ Day Nursery committee, approached the Smith Family for assistance for a new home for the nursery, they were, as always, sympathetically received, with the result that, after the position had been fully investigated, a campaign for the raising of funds was launched. er eighteen properties were viewed by members of the Smith Family together with Alesdames Coutts . and Norman before one in Vivian Street, adjoining St John Ambulance buildings, was finally decided upon. Next year when “The Family” is established in its new home it will he a rod letter day in the history of the Citizens’ Day Nurseries.. ,
Everything that is essential, and, at the snnieiime, practical, has been Well ■thought out for the health, happiness and comfort of the children, together with the same thought and consideration for the matron and her staff. Committee members, who are greatly indebted to the Smith Family for their willing response to the appeal, feel that this gift is a tribute from “The Joyspreaders” to the splendid work carried out by the matron, Airs. Eiley, and her nurses.
