FAT LAMB JUDGING

Opinions Of London Experts Dominion Special Service. Masterton, March 23. Reporting on the judging in London of fat lambs exhibited at the Wairarapa show, Henry S. Fitter and Sone Ltd. state: ‘There were some magnificent lambs in this class, and generally speaking the quality was quite up to that of last year. The usual good breeding was in evidence, although some of the carcases were not finished. The dressing and appearance of the lambs was splendid. In our opinion the best lamb in the show was a wether carcase in pen No. 701 (Montgomerie Bros.). It was perfect in make and shape, fulfilling all the requirements of the trade.” Detailed comment is as follows: — First, pen No. 717, McKenzie Estate (first in Wellington) : Three magnificent lambs, full of meat and not too tat. Short legs, thick shoulders and good backs, aud in our opinion the most suitable for the London trade. Second, pen No. 718, McKenzie Estate: Beautiful well-bred lambs, full of meat and not too fat. Short lege, thick shoulders and good hacks. Third, pen No. 693. A. Clarke (first at show and second at Wellington) : Three splendid little lambs, full of meat and not too fat. Short legs, thick shoulders and good backs. Fourth, pen No. 708. J. M. Jury (second at show and fourth at Wellington) : Three excellent carcases, well shaped and well covered, full of meat and not too fat. Fifth, pen No. 701, Montgomerie Bros.: One perfect lamb. Two not quite so good.

Sixth, pen No. 706, H. York (third at Wellington) : Three splendid lambs, full of meat and not too fat.

Seventh, pen No. 697. Papawai and Waikokirikiri Trust: Fine meaty lambs, not too fat.

Eighth, pen No. 721. S. Rayner and Son : Two very good lambs, one not quite up to standard. Ninth, pen No. 720, H. Brockett: Good meaty lambs, not too fat.

Tenth, pen No. 719. J. G. Donald: Splendid lambs, very well bred, one slightly coloured. Pen No. 694 (third at show, sixth at Wellington) : Very well bred but inclined to carry too much fat. Pen No. 695: Plain and slight of meat. Pen No. 696: Three very useful lambs. Pen No. 698: Lather long in leg and unfinished. Pen No. 699 : Three very useful lambs. Pen No. 700: Good meaty lambs. Pen No. 702: Weil bred, one not quite finished on tegs. Pen No. 703: Nicely shaped but not quite finished on legs. Pen No. 704: Rather slight of meat. Pen No. 705 (fifth at 'Wellington) : Good strong meaty lambs. Pen No. 707: Very nice lambs, not too fat. Pen No. 709: Good meaty lambs, one coloured. Pen No. 710: Two useful lambs, one not quite finished. Pen No. 711 : Three very nice meaty lambs. Pen No. 712: Two useful lambs, one not miite finished. Pen No. 713: Two good lightweight lambs, one rather plain Pen No. 714: Well bred but not quite finished on legs. Pen No. 715: 'Well-bred lambs, one not quite finished on legs. Pen No. 716: Very nice lambs, not quite, finished on legs. Pen No. 722 : Rather slight of meat and unfinished. ,
