Further Purchases Of Land
DWELLINGS FOR GISBORNE
Cabinet approval of further purchases of land for State housing purposes was announced yesterday by the Parliamentary Under - Secretaiy in charge of Housing, Mr. J. A. Lee. Details are as follow: — ■ Mount. Albert, Auckland: An aiea known as the Carrie Estate, and fronting Edeudale and Kitchener Roads, and Carrie and Coyle Streets, which will provide for 15 houses. In the same district purchase of the Churchill Estate has been approved, and this will provide accommodation for 29 houses. Huntly: Cabinet has approved the purchase of an area of land at Huntly fronting the Great South Road at the northern end of the town, comprising about three and a half acres which will accommodate 15 houses. ■■ Morrinsville: A further area of land has been purchased at Thames Street, Morrinsville.
Auckland: A contract for reading the Cadman and Williamson’s Blocks, Great South Road, Auckland, has been awarded to Grinter Bros. Mr. Lee also announced that further tenders were now being called to close on April 6 for an additional group of 10 single-house units and two twohouse units at Gisborne, making a total of 14 houses for erection in that town. This represented the second instalment of the Government’s housing scheme for Gisborne. Contracts had also been let for 19 single-group houses and three two-house units at Orakei, Auckland, and for 14 single-house units and three two-house units at Christchurch.
