Due to yesterday’s storm interfering with the transport of stock there were unusually small yardings in all classes at the Stortford Lodge ' sale to-day. Some entries were unable to reach the sale owing to floods. Among these was a line of cattle to be offered on account of Sir Andrew Russell, Turanui. Except for a' few' pens the fat cattle were of mixed quality, the cows being very poor. There was' a slight rise in the price of best heifers, but other sorts showed no improvement on last week. There i was no change in fat sheep rates. \ ery I few good lines of fattening ewes and lambs i were offered and bidding was erratic. The best entry was a line of mixed aged wethers which realised 22/10. Some of the realisations were: — Fat cattle : A pen of large-framed heavy Jersey-cross bullocks made to £ll/9/10; three solidly finished Aberdeen Anguscross bullocks, £l3/5/-; line of similar bred smaller-grown bullocks, £lO/11/6; from Mangatahi, three large-framed me-dium-linished Aberdeen Angus bullocks, £11; pen of medium to well-finished Aberdeen Angiis heifers, to £9/5/-; medium to heavy crossbred heifer, £B/12/-; pen of medium to heavy prime finished Aberdeen Angus-cross heifers, to £9/14/-; further pen of Aberdeen Angus-cross heifers, carrying a lot of condition, £7/15/to £9/2/6; four dehorned medium-grown Hereford heifers, to £B/6/-; pen of aged Aberdeen Angus cows, plain finish, £5 2/-;. four dehorned Hereford cows, medium framed, good order, £7/10/-; ace. Fat sheep were firm on recent rates. Store sheep: A line of 164 aged fattening ewes from Temahanga, in light condition, made 10/9; acc. Waiwhare Station, 178 mixed aged wethers, good store condition, 22/10; offering of 150 mediumgrown woolly white-faced wether lambs, 15/8; offering of aged ewes in poor condition, off hills, 8/-; line of mediumgrown short white-faced wether lambs, good store order, 14/9; line of small grown mixed-sex Down-cross lambs. 10/7. Burnside By Telegraph Cress association Dunedin, January 26. Fat eattle wer e firmer at the Burnside stock sale to-day, but values for mutton failed to show any improvement. Only two or three trucks of prime bullocks were included in the 237 fat cattle yarded, quality generally being poor. Competition was well maintained, however, and the result was an increase of from 10/- to 15/- a head. Extra prime heavy bullocks made to £l9/7/6; prime, £l5/15/- to £l7/17/6; medium, £ll/15/- to £ll3/17/6; light, down to £9/10/-; extra prime cows and heifers to £l2/7/6; prime, £B/17/6 to £lO/5/-; medium, £7/5/- to £B/7/6; light, down to £4/17/6. There was a dreary sale for well-bred steers in the store cattle section, which attracted an entry of 311 head. Fouryear steers sold at £8 to £9/5/-, and two-years-and-a-half steers to £7/15/-. The entry of fat sheep totalled 2087, only about a third of the total being wethers. A few came up to butchers' quality, the remainder being medium ami light sorts. Prime heavy wethers made to £l/12/-; prime, £l/7/- to £l/8/6; medium, £l/3/6 to £l/5/-; light down to £l/0/9: extra prime heavy young ewes to £l/7/6; prime to £l/4/-; medium. 16/6 to 18/6; light down to 13/6. . Some very good lambs were included in the total of 1030 offered, and with butchers competing keenly a small improvement in price took place. Extra prime lambs made to £l/8/6; prime, £l/3/6 to £l/5/-; medium, £l/0/6; t o £l/1/6; light down to 18/-. . , More than 130 fat. pigs were submitted, porkers bringing from £!!/5/- to £3/2/-, and baconers from £3/8/- to £4/5/-.
