Addington

By Telegraph—Press Association. Cliristcliurch, January 26. Entries in most sections of the Addington market to-day showed a decline on those of last week, fat. sheep being principally affected. There was a firmer sale for fat lambs, while sheep recovered part of last week’s drop. Store sheep were unaltered, and fat cattle, except for best sorts, were easier. Store sheep: Between 8000 and 9000 were penned, mostly wether lambs, which sold at little change. Forward wethers were firm, and some good pens of ewes were in demand. Best two-tooths made 30/-; best wether lambs,-17/- to 18/7 ; forward wethers. 21/- to 24/-. Fat lambs: 1150 were penned, of slightly better quality. For prime sor's butchers paid up to Bd. per lb., others at schedule price. Fat sheep: Nearly 600 were penned, as against 7500 last week. Best wethers were firmer by up to 1/6, heavy ewes by at least 1/-, and freezing sorts were firm at late rates. Extra prime wethers made to 38/4. good 29/6 to 34/-, prime medium 27/- to 29/-; best ewes, to 29/-, good 22/- to 24/-. medium 18/- to 21/-, light down to 14/-. ' Fat eattle: 500 were penned. Good cattle maintained last week’s rates, •but ' medium cows and unfimsneded steers were down by 16/a head. Fat pigs: A heavy entry., but slightly better prices. Porkers realised 34/6 to 53/6 an average price a lb. of 6d. to 61dJ baconers 54/6 to £3/19/6. an average a lb. of 54d. to 64d. Store pigs: The market was from to 3/- per head better. Wenners made 15/- to 22/-; slips, 23/- to 26/-; stores, 32/- to 37/6. Masterton Mastertoil, January 26. A good yarding of sheep was submitted by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency at the weekly Masterton stock Sale to-day. A fair entry of fat sheep remained at late rates. Breeding ewes, of which there was' a fair yarding, were not in great demand, but vendors met the market. Rape lambs were a little easier than last week’s sale, but medium and cull lambs sold at improved prices. A total clearance was effected at the following prices: — ,n Fat sheep: Fat wethers, 2a/- to 26/2, fat b.f. 2-tooths. 22/- to 23/-; good fat ewes. 18/- to 18/8; light lat ewes, 15/to 16/-; fat lambs, 22/-. , . , _ Store sheep: S.in. ewes, 16/-: 4 and ayear ewes, 19/-; fattening ewes, 6/- to 8/3; b.f. rape lambs, 15/6 to 11/lO; medium b.f. lambs, 12/- to 13/6; small b.f. lambs, 6/6 to 9/-; 2-tooth wethers, 19/to 20/-; m.s. b.f. 2-tooths, 18/6 to 19/-. Cattle: Dairy cows, with calves at foot, £5/19/-; store cows, £3. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Distributing Co.'s yarding eased in values for both ewes and lambs. Best rape lambs sold at from 17/6 to 18/4 and others 15/- to 16/-. Realisations were :— M.a. ewes, 18/6 to 20/-. Springing heifers, £6/17/6: empty cows, £3 to £4/6/-; Jersey bull, £2/7/6. Best weaner pigs, 18/- to 20/-; others, 14/6 to 16/-. Dalgety and Co. yarded more than 2000 lambs, anil an odd pen of big sheep. Competition was not altogether spirited, although prices for good b.f. lambs (suitable for rape) maintained values well up to those of last week. Medium and cull lambs were a little better in values, due to the recent beneficial rains. Fat sheep remained firm on last week’s report. They effected a total clearance under the hammer. Following are the principal sales:— Fat ewes, 16/- to 17/7 ; light fat ewes, 13/- to 14/1 ; fat maiden 2-tooth ewes, 22/6 to 23/-; light fat wethers. 23/6; store m.a. ewes (6-tooth to 5-year), .19/7; small 2-tooth, 24/-; medium ‘2tooth wethers, 19/9; b.f. rape lambs, 16/to 17/9; medium b.f. rape lambs, 15/to 15/9; medium b.f. lambs, 12/- to 13/1; small, 8/- to 11/7; medium w.f. wether lambs, 11/- to 12/7; small w.f. wether lambs, 8/- to 9/1: b.f. m.s. 2-tooths, 19/2 ; store ewes, 8/- to 9/8. Wright, Stephenson’s entry was well up to advertised numbers. Several pens of breeding ewes were offered, but the inquiry was weak, and prices seemed :n buyers’ favour. A big entry of lambs came forward, and after beneficial rains an improvement was looked for in this section. Compared with last-week, however, prices did not appreciate—in fact, bidding was slack, and the best lambs certainly showed no improvement ou the previous sale. Small and medium lambs sold at late rates. Fats were of inferior quality aud prices were down. Following were the prices— Sheep: 2-tooth ewes, to 31/5; small, to 22/6; 2-tooth wethers, to 21/9; 5year ewes, to 29/-; b.f. rape lambs, 17/to .18/9; medium b.f. lambs, 14/3 to 16/-; small, 10/3 to 12/6; woolly wether lambs, to 15/7; medium wether lambs, 12/6 io 13/3; medium m.s. lambs, to 15/1; small wether lambs, 8/6 to 10/5. Taihape Dominion Special Service. Taihape, January 26. The New Zealand I'armers’ Co-opera-tive Distributing Co., Ltd., offered 3200 sheep, chiefly lambs, at their Taihape sale to-day. Because of the recent rain in tliis district prices were slightly iu advance of recent sales, a total clearance being made under the hammer. Smith, Gisborne, they averaged sgns.

Wanganui Dominion Special Service. Wanganui, January 26. Four thousand sheep came forward at the Wanganui sale with a good yarding of beef and a moderate yarding iu all other sections. Prices generally were on a par with last week, and with the exception of a lew tat lambs n total clearance was made under the hammer. Very prime and heavy P.A. and Hereford cows hardly made the value, per 1001 b. of last week’s sale, but these entile too heavy for the season of the year. Store lambs sold quite well. Levin, January 26. ’ The weekly stock sale was held at the Levin yards' yesterday. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., offered particularly good yardings in all sections. Practically a total clearance was made under the hammer at full late rates, with the exception of beef, which showed a slight easing, due largely to an oversupply.
