OBITUARY
Mr. Edward H. Liddle The death occurred on Wednesday afternoon of Mr. Edward Hassell Liddle, for many years a director of Robert Hannah and Co., and a man well known in Wellington commercial circles. He was also connected with the Bunk of New Zealand, with which he had a long period of service at Timaru, Featherston, Hawera, Inglewood and Wellington.
Beside his business activities, Mr. Liddle took a keen interest in sport. He w:is very fond of the open-air life, and was greatly interested in horses. He was a member of the Wellington Racing Club. He was also keen on golf, and was a vice-president of the Miramar club, with which he was associated for 32 years. He was recognised as one of the club’s foremost members. Mr. Liddle was an able golfer who enjoyed his game, and for many years lie had the distinction of representing Miramar in inter-club matches.
Cricket, shooting, fishing and football also claimed Mr. Liddle’s attention, and in each of the sports he took a keen and active interest until the time of his death. As a young man he was recognised as a good cricketer, and lie had an excellent reputation as a? footballer. Mr. Liddle was the youngest son of Mr. James Liddle, manager of Meek’s flourmill, Wellington. He was born in Oamaru and was educated at Webb’s Private School aifd tlie Thorndon School. Wellington. After leaving school lie entered the service of the Bank of New Zealand at Timaru, and worked in the Featherston, Hawera, Inglewood, Wellington and Te Aro branches of the bank. Later lie became a director of Hannah and Co.
He leaves a widow (nee Kathleen Hannah) and a son, Mr. Robert IL Liddle. Mrs. Fred Graves, Sydney, is a sister, and Messrs. Ernest Liddle. Wellington, and Harold Liddle. Masterton. are brothers.
