MODEL ENGINEERING
Wellington Society At the recent meeting of the Wellington Model Engineering Society, correspondence revealed that considerable interest is being taken in the model sections for the centennial exhibition, and it is expected that by the next meeting definite indications from the various model engineering societies throughout the Dominion will be available. Advice was received of the successful formation of a model engineering society in Nelson, and the Wellington Society extended its best wishes for the new society’s prosperity. The greater part of the meeting was devoted to a discussion of models brought along by ’members. The first group comprised locomotives and rolling stock, principally in OO gauge, the work of Mr. C. J. Morton. Questions were answered on the methods used in making parts, which were handed round for inspection. Mr. L. S. K. Murray’s model naval gun, which was dismounted so that members might examine its construction, was also inspected. The questions on thw model were principally on lathe work, and much valuable information was given by the builder. Mr. J. 11. Skelley exhibited a free lance model of a rail-car. The design was based ou English practice, resulting in a pleasing car which had been internally fitted. Many questions were asked on the method used in painting and lining the model, and a lengthy discussion took place on the merits of brands of paints and enamels offered on the New Zealand market. A vote of thanks was passed to the three members for the wealth of information imparted in their answers to members’ questions. At the next meeting, Mr. Skelley will provide a motion picture display, and at the following meeting a sale of model parts is to be held.
