MERRY GATHERING

Combined Tramping Clubs' Ball Streamers in multicolour strung from vantage points on the celling to the sides of’the danceroom were used in effective decoration of St. Francis Hall last night when the fifth annual ball of the Combined Tramping Clubs was held. Further decoration was provided by tinsel-edged shields bearing the names of the various clubs placed at intervals around the walls. There was a very large attendance, members and friends of the Hutt Valley, Tararua, Paua, Victoria College and RueSac Tramping Clubs, choosing a somewhat less arduous form of exercise than is customary with them and making the most of several hours’ dancing to the strains of a particularly good orchestra, which was heard in melodies for old-time and modern dances. During the evening, exhibitions of modem ballroom crazes were loudly applauded. A sit-down suppet was served in the downstairs room,; where the tables were brightened by quaint green baskets of .yellow wattle and vases of yellow jonquils and birch.
