ANNUAL MEETING
Coastal Towns Branch of Plunket' Society The second annual meeting of the Coastal Towns branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Methodist Church Hall, Porirua. Mr. R. XV r . Bothamley presided over a representative gathering of members and friends from Paraparaumu, I’aekakariki, Pahautanui, Paremata, Pukerua Bay, Titahi Bay, Tawa Flat, and Newlands. He was assisted by Miss Austice (district nurse) and Mrs. Swainson (past president of Plimmerton sub-branch). lu his opening remarks, Mr. Bothamlev stated that it gave him great pleasure to have the honour of welcoming so many distinguished visitors, namely Mrs. Begg (president of the Dominion Council, Dunedin), Mrs. George (vice-president), Miss Hoddinott (Dominion secretary), Miss .Fitzgibbon (nursing advisor to council), Dr. Martin Tweed (medical adviser to council), and Mrs. Jowett (president of the XVcllington branch). The annual report and balance-sheet was read and adopted, and Mrs. Jowett congratulated the branch on the very tine work carried out, and Dr. Tweed, Mrs. Begg and Miss Hoddinott also paid a tribute to the activity of the branch.
Mrs. Gray (president of the coastal branch) thanked the sub-branches and the representatives of the newly-formed sub-branch at Paremata for their untiring support. The election of officers resulted as follows Patron, Sir Truby King, C.M.G.; president, Mrs. C. Gray; vicenresidents, Lady Hosking, Mesdames Bothamley, Barclay, Little, Ryan, Lewis, Hart, XVindley, Quill, Vickers, Dr. T. G. Gray, Dr. Hart, Rev. XVinhall Messrs. XV. I-I. Field, C. Gray, T. Ryan, M. D. Vickers, XV. Mexted, L. Lowry, M.P., J. F. B. Stevenson; horn orary secretary, Mrs. Hassall; hon. treasurer, Mr. R. XV'. Bothamley; general committee, Mesdames Ryan, Quill, Little, XVindley, Clark, Hughes, Hook, Thompson, E. Vickers, jun., Matthewson, McKenzie; sub-branch representatives, Mesdames Reeve, Brown (Paraparaumu), Barnett, Crawley (Paekakariki), Lindsay, Scott (Pukerua Bay), Neale, Ross (Plimmerton), Hawken, XVlckhain (Tawa Flab), XVright, Cook (Johnsonville), Phillips .(Newlands); advisory board : Drs. Lewis, Paterson and XVright, Messrs. Bothamley, XVindley, Gray, Hassall, Ryan, Colley, Hughes, M. D. Vickers, J. D. Hassall. Miss Fitzgibbon (nursing advisor to the council) gave a very interesting talk on her visit to the Canadian national exhibition, where she demonstrated the methods of the Plunket Society as founded in - New Zealand by Sir Truby King. Miss Fitzgibbon also spoke of her ..travels in England and Scotland. Miss Dorothy Hughes presented shoulder sprays to Miss Fitzgibbon, Miss Hoddinott, Mrs. Jowett and Nurse Welsh, and Mrs. Quill presented a spray to Mrs. Gray. .On behalf of the sub-branch, Mrs. Gray presented a hand-bag to Mrs. Hassall in recognition of her services. Appreciative remarks of the good work being done by. Nurse XVelsh were received from all the sub-branches.
Afternoon tea served by the executive brought an enjoyable and successful meeting to a close.
