THE SOCIAL ROUND

Bridge Party at National Club

A bright: fire burning in the entrance ! ball of the National Club last night bade a large crowd of members welcome when the club held a most successful bridge party. It also anticipated the keynote —cheerfulness —ol the decorations and of the gathering in the lounge and library upstairs. Bowls of massive hydrangeas, spring flowers aud iceland poppies formed a most attractive setting for the many creamcoloured tables which were filled to capacity. The big glass doors between the rooms were thrown open, thus admitting of extra space and also of an opportunity for members to meet and mingle later in the evening. The hostesses for the occasion were Mrs. G. F. Stone, in a frock of black floral georgette and black chiffon velvet coatee; and Mrs. Nola Parkinson (club hostess), wearing a frock of brown chiffon velvet; and the committee comprised the following: Mrs. G. F. Stone, Mrs. Graham Robertson, and Miss T. Peckstone.

At the conclusion of play the Leader of the National Party, Hon. Adam Hamilton, presented the prizes, which included an attractive plate, a pair of candle-sticks, a water jug and a witch bowl.

Supper, served in the dining-room, which was decorated with iceland popples, was much enjoyed by all present. Among those who made up tables were: Mesdames J. E. Widdop. C.. S. Clark, A. A. Sherry and cocktails were served in the diningroom and the lounge, which ■were beautifully decorated with bowls of Irises, anemones, daphne and violets. These were arranged most attractively in the corners of the lounge, and set off to perfection the rich gold tonings of the furnishings. Heavy gold curtains were drawn across the window, and in the lamplight gave the rooms a very bright and sunny appearance. The diningtable, on which reposed a most tempting array of savouries of every kind, had as its centrepiece a silver bowl filled with slender-stemmed rose-pink carnations and deeper pink cyclamen. Candles in tall silver sticks were placed at each corner of the table, and when lit gave a most festive note to a very pleasant party. To Bid Farewell.
