DIAMOND WEDDING

Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Bellamore, Wellington To-day will be celebrated the diamond jubilee of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Bellamore, 91 Elizabeth Street, Wellington. Mr. Bellamore, who came to Now Zealand in the Michael Angelo in 1875, was married to Miss Rose Anna Paul, Nelson, on July 29, 1877. From 1879 to 1890 he was in the service of the Post and Telegraph stores, and in 1890 joined the staff of the Wellington Harbour Board, in whose employ he remained for forty-three years, retiring about four years ago. While in the employ of the harbour board, Mr. Bellamore was a prominent member of the Ambulance Brigade. During his long life in New Zealand he has witnessed many changes, from the days of the steam trams up to the present time. Mr. and Mrs. Bellamore had four children, one of whom died during the great typhoid epidemic in 1893. The other three children are: Mrs. C. W. Cooper, New Brighton, Christchurch; Mr. C. H. Bellamore, of the P. and T. stores, Wellington; Mr. A. C. Bellamore, of H. H. Tombs, Ltd., Wellington. Plunket "Rainbow" Ball On Saturday night Eastbourne’s leading social activity of the season, the Plunket Ball, will take place, and from all_accounts it should eclipse in popularity any of its predecessors. This very popular annual fixture never fails to arouse attention and it is understood that a very large number of dancers, from\ Eastbourne, the Hutt Valley and Wellington, will be present. This year the decorative scheme will be “a riot of 'rainbows’’ and should be one of the most colourful imaginable. The customary home-made supper, for which ■ this dance is famous, will be served. An energetic committee is hard at work making all the final arrangements. Lectures on New Zealand Miss Francesca Pilliet, Christchurch, who has been living abroad for some years, will leave for New Zealand by the Strathmore on October 1. The vessei is due at Auckland on November 19. Miss Pilliet has given up her flat at Mentone, but before leaving the South of France she delivered a few lectures on New Zealand, one, in Monte Carlo, attracting a large audience. The slides were sent to her from New Zealand House. Townswomen's Guild Mrs. James Pow, Dominion chairman of the New Zealand Union of Townswomen’s Guilds, has returned to Wellington after a visit to Palmerston North, where she was invited to address the guild in that city. The attendance of more than 300 was presided over by the mayoress, Mrs. Mansford. Mrs. Pow was very enthusiastically received and thanked by Mrs. Mansford for her instructive address. The Palmerston North Guild is progressing rapidly and filling the great need in the social life of the town. There is some-excellent talent among its members as was shown by the musical programme provided, also the floral decorations of the gardening circle. Mrs. Mansford and Mrs. Black conducted Mrs. Pow around the places of interest A London Appointment Dr. Elizabeth Newlands, who left recently for England, has been appointed to the staff of the South London Hospital for Women, at Clapham.

Miss K. Christoffel, Inglewood, has received word that she passed the State examination for midwives with honours. Miss Christoffel received her midwifery training at St. Helen’s Hospital, Wellington.
