DAVIS CUP CHANGES HANDS

Win For United States GREAT BRITAIN LOSES TWO FINAL SINGLES By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. London, July 27. America won Mie Davis Cup from Great Britain by four matches to one, winning both the concluding singles todav. Results are:— F. A. Parker (U.S.A.) beat C. E. Hare (Great Britain), 6-2, 6-4, 6-2. J. D. Budge (U.S.A.) beat 11. W. Austin (Great Britain), 8-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. The dull weather reacted upon Hare and Parker, who started somnolently. The A’Zrican awakened first and broke through two of the Englishman’s services for the set, 6-2. Hare, who thrived on Budge’s speed on Saturday, was unable to counter Parker’s versatility or deal with his changes of pace. Moreover, his slowness of foot enabled Parker to outmanoeuvre him. The Englishman won two service games bo love, but the American took the set, 6-4. Hare won the first two games iu the third set, but afterwards lapsed again, double-faulting, over-driving and netting. Parker won six games in succession for the set, thus giving him the match and America the Davis Cup.

The Budge-Austin match was now a mere exhibition. Austin led 5-2 in the first set, but Budge won the set, S-6. The element of comedy pervading the. match was indicated by the players exchanging rackets for the first game in the fourth set, Budge hitting four winners with Austin’s streamlined racket. Princess Helena Victoria presented the Davis Cup to the United States team at Wimbledon this evening. This makes the twelfth occasion on which the United States have won the Davis Cup. They held it for seven successive years prior to 1927, when it was won by France, who retained it for six years, being beaten in 1933 by Great Britain, the latter keeping it until the present contest. 'The United States have won the cup 12 times, Great Britain nine times, Australia seven' times and France six times. win for McGrath Brussels, July 27. The final of the international tennis tournament at Westende resulted: — V. B. McGrath (Australia) beat Naeyert (Belgium), 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
