First Cloth in Nelson

Tiie first cloth made in Nelson, New Zealand, was made by Mr. Thomas Blick, in the year 1847. Mr. Blick had a difficult, task getting his loom built, but several of the settlers helped. The next difficulty was to secure yarn, but about this time a. number of German settlers had arrived, bringing their spinning wheels with them, and some of the women folk undertook to spin the wool into yarn. A good worker could spin one pound of yarn in a day, for which she was paid one shilling.— E.JI.E. (Blenheim).
