INFANTILE PARALYSIS

4 Closing of Schools in Victoria (Received July 24, 12.45 a.m.) Melbourne, July 23. Although no new cases of infantile paralysis, were reported to-day, the Education Department decided to close about fifty schools in a large area surrounding tha affected part, in view of the fact that recent cases are coming from parts farther afield. All picture theatre in the area are ceasing matinees, and children are not being admitted to night performances. There is a strict prohibition on children from closed schools ■ transferring to other schools. . . /

There is much dissatisfaction on the part of parents at the authorities’ delay in taking action. The official view when the closing of the schools was previously suggested was that it was not helpful.
