Song Group Meeting There was a gratifying number of members present when the song group of the British Music Society held its first meeting of the 1937-38 season in Wellington recently. Mr. Clement Howe was unanimously re-elected leader of the* group. The members received with regret the resignation of Miss Janet Stirling from the position of hon. secretary. Mr. W. M. Page, president of the society, voieed the sentiments of the members when he said that Miss Stirling had proved a most capable and enthusiastic secretary during the past two years, and. a vote of thanks was paseell to Miss Stirling for her efforts. Miss Eileen Courtenay was appointed secretary for the coming season, and Misses L. M. Hitchings, M. Atkinson and K. Maeiver were elected to the committee. For the ►programme members had been asked to submit Scandinavian songs and an enjoyable. selection was presented. Composers whose works were featured included Greig. Backer-Gronhndahl, Sibelius, Ivan Hallstrom and Halfdan Kjerulf. The following members took part in the programme: Misses L, M. Hitchings, Burge, I. Potter. E. Courtenay and K. Maeiver and Mr. Bonifant. Mrs. Audrey Gibson Foster was the accompanist for the evening. Miss Atkinson read an interesting and entertaining paper ou Scandinavian composers, and the group was indebted to Mr. Ferguson, leader of the gramophone group, for the recordings he supplied. The next meeting of the group, early in August; will be devoted to songs by French composers. ANNUAL meeting The adjourned annual meeting of the British Music Society wilt take place in .Mies Lorna Black’s studio, 118 Lambton Quay, on Wednesday at 5.15 p.m. The balance-sheet will be presented.
