SEVERE HURRICANE
Awatea’s Tasman Crossing (Received May 7, 8.25 p.m.) Sydney, May 7. Captain Davey, master of the transTasman express liner Awatea, which arrived to-day from New Zealand, said that on Wednesday morning the Awatea ran into a severe hurricane, which was worse than the one experienced a fortnight ago. It brought up a high, confused sea. A particularly high wave struck a light standard and bent it like a hairpin. The Awatea passed the Manama at 7.49 p.m. on Thursday. The Marama and the Niagara were both running late and are expected to arrive on Saturday morning.
