SUGAR CONFERENCE
Progress of Negotiations (British Official Wireless.) (Received April 20, 5 p.m.) Rugby, April 19. A communique issued by the International Sugar Conference states that the committee appointed to examine general questions held further meetings today, and that the discussion turned chiefly upon protectionist or fiscal measu res. The negotiating committee also held a meeting with the heads of delegations, at which the conference president, Mr. J. Ramsay MacDonald, informed them of tlie progress of negotiations. He outlined what had so far been accomplished toward adapting the various demands for export quotas to the total needs of the free market, and pointed out further concessions which would have to be made in order to reach an equitable agreement compatible with the common good. 'Trusting to the goodwill which the delegations had so far shown, Mr. MacDonald expressed the hope that the conference would arrive at a successful conclusion.
