BORROWING 50,000,000 DOLLARS A WEEK

United States Treasury (Received April 16, 10.55 p.m.) Washington, April 16. Mr. H. M. Morgenthau, Secretary of the Treasury, announced that the Treasury has been forced to resume new money borrowing at the rate of 50,000,000 dollars a week as_the result of tax receipts being nearly 500,000,000 dollars below the estimates. Simultaneously departmental bureau heads, under orders from President Roosevelt, began pressing subordinates to cut expenditure to the limit.
