TWO-DAY CONVENTION

Missionary Auxiliary

A two-day district convention was held by the Wellington Methodist Women’s Missionary Auxiliary in the Wesley Church, Taranaki Street, recently, lhe proceedings opened with a high tea presided over by the officers of the district council. Between 40 and o 0 members attended the tea, which was very nicely prepared and set out in the Bible classroom, with beautiful flowers, etc. All adjourned to the church, where an inspiring service was held. The Revs. H. Haslam and J. Richaids administered Communion. Miss Betty Turner was at the organ. The Easter offerings were presented to the treasurer, Mrs. Denby, and dedicated by Mrs Pacey (president). They amounted to more than £54. Miss Watson gave a very telling address on “The Vine and the Branches.” She spoke of “apathetic Christians” and the blessings they have and do not appreciate. She urged vital union with Christ, and bearing witness for Him in lives and deeds. . Resuming next morning, Mrs. E. O. Blamires was the speaker, and took for her subject “The Healing of Peter’s Wife’s Mother” by Jesus. She spoke of the healing balm and the “still small voice” which would guide and direct all if they were in tune with the “Infinite.”

Mrs. Pacey welcomed visitors from Otaki, Eketahuna, Petone, Waiwetu, and Upper Hutt, and opened the discussion on a “Membership Campaign.” Suggestions in plenty were offered, to increase members, and an interesting time followed. Prayer, education sisters’ letters, effort, and co-operation were suggested. Questions and answers were taken, the subjects chosen being “Kurakuna Maori Girls’ School” in Auckland, “Our Sisters in the Solomons,” and “The Maori Field.” Much information was gained.

A prayer cycle was taken, all branches taking part. Mrs. Coventry and Miss A. Bennie both sang solos. Juvenile work was discussed, and other matters of interest were brought forward.

Morning and afternoon tea was served under the supervision of Mrs. Gamble.
