WEDDING

Laing—Fairchild The wedding was solemnised recently at St. Matthew’s Church, Masterton, of Kalmia Grant, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Fairchild, Masterton, and only grand-daughter of the late Captain and Mrs. John Fairchild, to Geoffrey Gordon, second son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Gordon Laing, “Fairview,” Masterton. The ceremony was fully choral and was conducted by the Rev. E. J. Rich. The church was beautifully decorated by friends of the bride, who entered with her father and wore a graceful gown of deep magnolia satin, her only ornament being a diamond pendant, the gift of her aunt, Miss Fairchild. Her veil was held in place by three gold flowers mounted on a gold tissue cap and she carried a trailing bouquet of deep cream roses and carnations. Miss Jean McLachlan as bridesmaid, Marjory Hardy as flower-girl, and Peter Laing as page boy attended the bride. Both bridesmaid and flowergirl wore pale pink chiffon with haloes of small pale pink dahlias and carried bouquets of roses and dahlias to tone. The page boy was dressed in a Victorian suit of deep magnolia satin. Mr. Norman Kummer attended the bridegroom as best man. During the signing of the register the choir sang the anthem “Jerusalem.” A reception was held at the Empire Hotel, where the bride’s mother received the guests wearing an ensemble of navy blue mariette trimmed with grey fur, and hat to match, and carrying a pink posy. The bridegroom’s mother, in a black frock with fur coat and hat to match and carrying a posy of autumn tints, assisted her. When the bride and bridegroom left for the north, the former was wearing a navy suit trimmed with navy astrakan, and navy accessories. Miss Anne Morrow, Christchurch, who has been staying with Miss Joan Pollock, Napier, is now in Waipukurau, where she is the guest of Mrs. Perry Wilder.
