FAREWELL PARTY
Mrs. Selwyn Chambers gave a farewell party at her home, Kopanga, Havelock North, recently for her guests, Mrs. Curzon and Miss Johanna Curzon, Lockington Hall, Derbyshire, England, who will sail for England by the Aorangi from Auckland. Wide bowls of hydrangeas and chrysanthemums were arranged in the drawing-room and in the dining-room, where afternoon tea was served.
Those present were: Mrs. George Tripe, Mrs. Robert Nairn, Mrs. W. N. Barron, Mrs. H. Coleman, Miss Helen Coleman, Miss Violet Russell, Miss Alison Anderson, Mrs. Ritchie, Miss Muriel Ritchie, Mrs. Tnrner-Williams, Miss Marjorie Turner-Williams, Mrs. F. K. Faulkner, Miss Lorimer, Miss Simcox, Mrs. Geoffrey Moore, Miss Moore, Miss Irene Chambers, Miss Hazel Chambers, Miss Lily Maef.arlane, Miss Olive Nairn, Miss Ruth Nelson, Miss Edna Burbury, Miss Letty Levien (England).
There is every indication that the English-Speaking Union’s Coronation ball, to be held In the Town Hall on May 11, will prove one of the biggest social events of the season. His Excellency the Governor-General has signified his intention of being present. The decorations, which are in the hands of a professional firm of high standing, will be carried out on an elaborate scale befitting the occasion, and the colour scheme will include the Royal Coronation colours as well as those of the union. At 10 p.m. a set of tableaux will be presented by Mrs. Victor S. Lloyd and will last for half an hour.
The Marchioness of Sligo, accompanied by Lady McLean, of Ardgour, is expected to arrive in New Zealand by the Rangitata in November next and to leave again for England via Australia in February. In the interim they propose to tour New Zealand and visit the South Sea Islands. It has been announcal by the committee in charge of the forthcoming Wellington College old girls’ ball th,at debutantes will be welcomed. All ex-pupils intending to make this their “coming-out” dance should advise Mrs. Kircher, 21 Hawker Street (telephone 52-287) before Friday, April 23.
