Italian Volunteers In Spain AMBASSADOR’S STAND Grave turn Precipitated in London OBSTRUCTIVE ATTITUDE By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright (Received March 24, 7.35 p.m.) London, March 23. The political correspondent of the “Manchester Guardian” states that Count Grandi, Italian Ambassador to London, speaking at a meeting of the Non-Intervention in Spain Committee, said that not a single Italian volunteer will leave Spain until the end of the civil war. The chairman. Lord Plymouth, seemed greatly surprised and said that the announcement created a situation of extreme gravity and that he would refer the matter to his Government. . The German delegate, Herr yon Ribbentrop, has reserved his opinion on the question for the present. The “Daily Telegraph” says Count Grandi expressed his personal view when he said the Italians would not withdraw from Spain until the end of the war. British circles are hopeful that his obstructive attitude can be modified.
