Whole Country Appears Behind Government
OPPOSITION DISAPPEARS

The almost total disappearance in England of the former opposition to the rearmament programme instituted some months ago by the British Government was commented on iu an interview to-day by Mr. James Begg, who has returned to Dunedin after spending six months in the Old Country. Mr. Begg said tiiat when the rearmament programme, which involved the expenditure of an immense amount of money, was launched a great deal of criticism was expressed, not only by the Opposition in Parliament but also by a great many societies and organisations throughout the country. Toward tlie end of his visit, however, opposition seemed to have died completely away, and tlie whole country appeared to be behind the Government in its efforts to bring the defences up to a strength that would enable Great Britain to resist any possible invasion from abroad. ______
