The Marquess and Marchioness of Hartington, who are visiting New Zealand, left for the South Island last night. Sir Edward Harding, Permanent Under-Secretary for Dominion Affairs, accompanied by Lady Harding, who recently arrived at Auckland from England, left Wellington for the south last night. The Hon. Mr. Justice Johnston will leave for New Plymouth to-morrow to complete the Supreme Court sessions. The Hon. G. Dawnay, London, arrived at Wellington yesterday, and is staying at the Midland Hotel, Dr. J. Russell has returned to Wellington from the south. Mr. G. C. Seers travelled south last night from Wellington. Mr. J. E. Macassey left Wellington last night on his return to Dunedin. Mr. Freeborn Parsons left Wellington for the south last night. Mr. 11. A. Malone has been appqjnted treasurer to the Samoan Administration.

Baker, assistant engineer-in-chief of the Public Works Department, has been appointed deputy-chair-man of the Main Highways Board.

Mr. R. S. Black, Dunedin, passed through Wellington yesterday morning on route to Auckland, to join the Monterey for the United States of America.

Mr. W. Orebaugh, Consul for the United States of America, and Mrs. Orebaugh left Wellington last night for Auckland, where Mrs. Orehaugh will join the Monterey for San Francisco.

MacKenzie, will represent the Wellington City Council at the annual conference of chairmen of reserves committees and park superin tenttents, to be held at Christchurch In January. Mr. E. J. Ellery, of Invercargill, who travelled In the Shaw, Savill and Albion liner lonic on her first voyage nearly 34 years ago, has decided to revisit England in the old ship. He has booked a passage by the lonic, which will depart from Wellington early tomorrow morning on the Homeward passage of her sovqnty-ninth and last voyage.
