MORNING TEA PARTY

Lady Elliott and Lady Reed were guests of honour at a delightful morning tea party yesterday given by Mrs. J. P. Firth. The small lounge and the bridgeroom were both used for the reception, tile decorations being spring flowers. Those present were particularly pleased at being given this opportunity to offer their congratulations to the guests of honour, and the party was a. very happy one. Mrs. Firth received in a black maroeain gown with a small velvet toque and carried a dainty posy of violets. Among those present were: Lady Beauchamp, Lady Luke, Lady Findlay, Lady Gray, Lady McGavin, Lady Frazer, Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop, Mrs Sprott, Mrs. A. D. Crawford, Mrs. F. Dyer, Mrs. L. O H. Tripp, Mrs. Rankine Brown, Mrs. Knox Gilmer, Mrs. F. W. Ward, Mrs. F. Dawson, Mrs. Adamson, Mrs. Armour, Mrs. R. C. A. Addison.

Line and cut is the feature of the newest evening frocks. They are almost all of class’c simplicity with a jewelled belt, a flower or a sparkling buckle as their sole decoration. Here and there one finds a picture frock witli wide-spreading skirt, such as a perfect ly delightful debutante’s frock of white net with frilly sleeves, sewn all over with pearls two or three inches apart and girdled with a pearl belt. A classic frock made from a heavy, dusty pink crepe preserves a straight silhouette, though cut with marvellous hidden fullness and a slight train. A long scarf from one shoulder emphasises the Greek influence, and a . wide jewelled belt in pink and green is a distinctive note. Another of the same type of gown is carried out in a dull pastel blue, a shade that can be worn by any colouring, but specially charming with white hair. It has a high neck-line in front, with a cross-over back not very decollete, and a slightly-trained skirt. A scarf, springing from the centre front, cleverly pleated to form little epaulet sleeves, then floats from either shoulder, grace in every line. A lovely diamente buckle gives a sparkling touch.
