SKIN WOOL DUTY
Imposition Not Recommended “Following the receipt of information that an application had been made by British fellmongering interests to the Bri* tish Board of Trade for an import duty to be imposed on scoured and skin wools into Great Britain,” states the annual report of the New Zealand Sheepowners’ and Farmers’ Federation, “the executive made urgent representations with a view to combating the proposals made on the ground that any duty imposed on these wools as suggested would result in pro- 1 portionately lower prices being paid for these classes of wool for export from New Zealand to England. The duty suggested was 10 per cent. “Our representations were made through the Industries and Commerce Department to the High Commissioner’s Office, and the matter was referred to the special Tariff Advisory Committee to. the British Government, the outcome being the receipt of a cable from the High Commissioner, advising that the Tariff Committee had decided not to recommend the granting of the request for tire import duty proposed. “The executive wishes to express its appreciation of the assistance rendered in this connection by the officers of the Government Department concerned, and also those of the High Commissioner and his staff.”
