GRAIN AND PRODUCE
Lifeless Potato Market By Telegraph—Press Association. ■ Christchurch, July 21. All interest in the potato market appears to have died for the present and business is almost at a standstill. Quotations from southern ports of SO/- have stifled business here, and in any case there appears to be no demand from the north. Fairly heavy consignment lots have gone forward, and farmers are offering more freely, but there is little interest. The nominal quotation for whites is £2/10/- to £2/15/- a ton on trucks and for dakotas about 7/6 more. The price of pollard lias beeu lowered by 10/- a ton but bran is unchanged. Bran is worth £4/15/- a ton and pollard £5/15/- for large sizes. Fowl wheat is a little firmer and good whole is worth 4/2, a slight improvement. There is no great demand but sellers are not disposed to come any lower. A certain amount of chaff is being shipped to the North Island and the market until to-day, when there was indication of slight easing, has been firm. ' Oats are also steady with no great trade.
