MOTHERS’ UNION
Tenth Anniversary
A large number of members and friends celebrated the tenth birthday of St. James’ Mothers' Union, Lower Hutt, recently. The celebrations began with a service in St. James’s Church, in the course of which a banner—the gift of Mrs. Brooks —was presented and dedicated. The party then adjourned to the Parish Hall and spent the evening socially. Among the many guests were Mrs. Hansell, Mrs. James, Mrs. I'xckinsbn, members and secretaries from Petone, Eastbourne, Roseneath, Kilbirnie, Berhampore, Lyall Bay, and Johnsonville branches; presidents and secretaries of Lower Hutt and Moera branches of the League of Mothers. Mrs. Hansell and all foundation members present were the recipients of shoulder sprays. Items were given by the branch choir, Mesdames Parkes, Lang and Miss Brooks. Mrs. McKay and Miss Brooks provided music for games and competitions. The large birthday cake, which had been made and given by foundation members, was cut by Mrs. Hansell, the first enrolling member of the branch. Greetings were received from Mrs. Mowatt, of Invercargill, the first secretary, and also from Mrs. King, her successor, who was visiting Hamilton.
