UNIVERSITY RUGBY
Auckland Defeats Victoria Dominion Special Service. Auckland, May 20. After a lapse of some years the Auckland University College and Victoria University College Rugby teams met at Eden Park this afternoon in tine weather, under ideal ground conditions, and in the presence of a large gathering of spectators. The first spell was evenly contested, but in the second the Auckland team was always on top and it eventually won by 30 points to 8. The first half of the game was too keenly contested to bo productive of spectacular play. The tackling on both sides wits excellent and Auckland had a lead of six points at the interval. Wellington scored shortly after (lie interval and when the try was converted and there was but one point difference between the teams it looked as though the result might be close. However the Auckland team, especially the backs, showed definite superiority from this point onward, and it ran out a well-deserved winner by a substantial margin. Tries for Auckland were scored by Thomas, Hayman, Drake, Jlulvhill, Bush, Newman, Kirkland and Inglis, Bush converting three. Irving and Lange scored for Wellington, Rae converting one of the tries.
