Must Have Uniformity OTAGO REQUEST DECLINED The necessity for uniformity of the rules tinder which the game is played in the Dominion was again insisted upon by the management committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union last night, when a request from the Otago Secondary Schools’ Association, forwarded through the Otago Rugby Union, to be allowed to kick the ball into touch from tiny part of the field was declined. When the letter came before the committee the chairman, Mr. S. S. Dean, said the request could not be allowed; there must be uniformity of rules throughout the Dominion. Mr. A. McDonald: Are you going to knock your football back? Is that wise? Mr. Dean : We arc not going to knock our football back, but we must have uniformity of rules. Mr. McDonald said the Rugby players in Otago were up against strong competition from the .Soccer code. Jlr. W. J. 'Wallace: I believe in uniformity ; we must have one thing or the other. On the motion of the Hon. J. JlcLeod, M.L.C., it was decided to inform the Otago union that the dispensation asked for b.v the Otago Secondary Schools’ Association could not be granted. Visit from Samoan Team. The Apia Rugby Union (Samoa) wrote stating that it would like to send a team to tour the North Island of New Zealand, playing matches against Jlaori and secondary school teams. They wished to be informed of the cost of such a tour, and the possibilities of it being a financial success. Jlr. Wallace thought a visit from a Samoan team would be a distinct novelty. as the Samoans played in bare feet. The request was referred to the subcommittee dealing with overseas’ tours. Gilmer (Hawke’s Bay). W. B. Fredatobish, C. Watts, J. Harris, W. A. Absolom, R. Dick. E. F. McNeil, D. H. Francis. A. Quarterman (Auckland), T. F. Marshall, A. J. Cameron (King Country), F. A. Bryden, K. E. Jlerrin (Canterbury), A. G. Ramsay, F. Barbara, A. Barbara. N. W. Waghorn (Otago). J. Robertson, A, H. Quinn, J. Culling (West Coast), C. W. Sanders, W. E. G. Sigloy (Waikato), W. Oati (South Auckland), W. L. Ford (North Auckland). The loss the game has suffered through the deaths of Jlr. J. C. Spencer. a one-time New Zealand representative player: Mrs. MeEvedy, wife of the late Dr. P. F. MeEvedy, a former president of the New Zealand union; and Jlr. Collins, an administrator of the game in Taranaki, was referred to by Jlr. Dean. On his motion, a vote of sympathy with the relatives was carried, members standing.
