Tour of New Zealand Two Australian ami two New Zealand cyclists with fine records are at present visiting New Zealand, and Christchurch, where they will give a demonstration of roller-riding at the Crystal Palace for a week, from to-morrow. They are touring New Zealand giving similar entertainments. They are Frank Thomas and lat Veitch, the Australians, Hubert Turtill (Greymouth) and Alby Ralston (Dunedin). The two New Zealanders have recently returned from Australia, where they bad great success. Thomas, who rode in the Tour do France in 1931, was second in the big six-day Brisbane race in 1932. Among liis numerous records are that for the 191 miles between Canberra and Sydney (9hr. 42tnin.), 200 miles unpaced on the road (lOhr. 12min.), the 218-mile Syd-ney-Newcastle-Sydney ride (llhr. 52 min.), 25 miles unpaced on the road (Ihr. 2min. 52sec.), and covering 24 miles 942 yards in one hour unpaced. In addition, he has on numerous occasions held State and club championships, all won oft’ scratch, and recently raced with success at Te Kuiti and Otorohanga. Veitch is the tive-mile Australasian and Victorian track champion. He won the New Zealand two-mile track championship at Te Kuiti recently and has held his club’s five-mile track championship for five years. Among his other successes are the Australasian 128-mue. 25-mile and 30-mile road records, a first in the championship in the Centenary Thousand, and many other wins. Turtill, who is New Zealand quarter, half, mile and two-mile track champion, recently toured England and the Continent with success. Ralston also nas many championships to. his credit ana raced with great success in Australia.
