ROTARIANS’ CABARET

Annual Event For Charity Pleasant memories of the Wellington Rotary Club’s "cabaret evening” last year were probably responsible for the large attendance at Kirkcaldieand Stains’s last night, when this annual effort for charity was repeated, and it is certain that many Rotarians and “Rotariannes” and their friends who spent the evening dancing with them, will remember the 1936 “cabaret.” as one of the most delightful of till. There is always an air of good cheer and friendliness among this body of citizens, whose work for charity is so magnificent (and this was particularly manifest last night), everything “going with a swing” from start to finish. The ballroom and two supper rooms had been beautifully decorated, and the red leather upholstered chairs and dark tables, arranged in cabaret fashion, looked particularly well against the’ cream walls. The lounge had green palms and autumn foliage for decoration, and the fawn upholstered settees looked very comfortable with scarlet and black cushions. Three huge inverted sun umbrellas, festooned with streamers, were hung from the ballroom ceiling, and during the evening they were released, letting fall showers of multi-coloured balloons among the dancers. An excellent orchestra played from a dais in a corner of the room. A sit-down supper was set in both the Jacobean room and the lower lounge. The tables were green clothed, and decorated with iceland poppies, marigolds and lovely purple irises. There was a paper hat at each place, and a novel feature of the supper were the trifles made to resemble early Victorian ladies, with crinoline skirts. The president, Mr. AV. Gray Young, and Mrs. Young, who wore a graceful frock of rosewood and black figured french crepe, received at the entrance to the ballroom.
