AFTERNOON TEA

Theatrical Company Entertained Three long tables, covered with pale green cloths and artistically decorated with tall crystal vases of, iceland poppies and brass bowls of marigolds, were arranged at one end of the D.I.C. tearooms yesterday for a very pleasant afternoon reception given by the management in honour of Miss Ethel Morrison and Miss Elaine Hamill, of the J. C. Williamson company now in Wellington. The other members of the company were also present, together with a number of persons connected witii amateur theatrical societies in Wellington. Mr. W. Simm. general manager of the D.1.C., and Mrs. Simm (who acted as hostess) received the guests in the lounge. Mrs. Simm was wearing an electric-blue wool suit, with “frog” trimming, with a matching hat and furs. Miss Morrison wore a black cony seal coat with a big wrap-over collar over her black frock, which had touches of deep cream lace at the neck, and a little black velvet toque. Miss Hamill looked charming in a black frock, with two bunches of forget-me-nots at the neck, and her black taffeta halo hat had forget-me-nots at one side. She also wore a finger-tip cape of dyed squirrel. It was a very friendly'and informal gathering, and after a delicious tea had been enjoyed Mr. Simm made a brief speech, remarking on the admiration and regard Wellington had for these two actresses who had brought distinction to the country of their birth. He also mentioned the great satisfaction that was felt by all present at the return to popularity of the legitimate stage. Mrs. Knox Gilmer spoke a few words of appreciation on behalf of the Wellington Amateur Operatic Society, of which she is president. She mentioned Miss Morrison's first stage appearance in Wellington with the Amateur Operatie Society and her ever-remembered performance with this society as the fairy queen in “lolanflie.” Miss Morrison's brief speech of thanks for the hospitality site and the company had received was charmingly worded, and Miss Hamill added her thanks to those of Miss Morrison.
