SHOPLIFTING CHARGE
Nightdress Concealed Under Coat Two charges of theft arising out of shop-lifting incident were preferred against Donald Stuart Fraser, labourer, 34 years, in the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, on Saturday morning. Accused pleaded guilty to the thefts, which involved the lifting of one silk locknit nightdress valued at 5/6, and one ball of wool valued at 4d. Detective-Sergeant L. Revell said that shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday an assistant in J. R. McKenzie's, Ltd., noticed accused take a nightdress and place it. under his coat. She informed the assistant manager, who accosted accused in Cuba Street. He was handed over to a constable, and when searched a ball of wool was also found in his possession, accused admitting having taken this. He had been drinking. but was not drunk. On the first charge accused was lined 20/-, in default seven days’ imprisonment, and on tlie second lie was ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within six months.
