FRENCH CLUB MEETING
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Cerele Francois was held on Thursday evening, in the Pioneer Club’s reception room, the president, Mr, W. F. C. Balham. presiding. The programme for the evening was arranged by Miss Smythson (secretary) and Miss C. Smythson. interesting discourse was given on “La Croix de Feu” by the Rev. Dr. Francis Walsh, and Miss Tewsley contributed an interesting reading, “Tannhauser, il y a 75 ans.” Miss Dorothy Buck played “A Bird of Paradise at the Waterfall” and “In a Chinese City,” both numbers being greatly appreciated, and community singing was directed by Dr. Keys. “La Danseuse an Couvent,” a playlet by Pierre Decourcelle, was interpreted b’v Professor F. F. Miles, who replaced Signor O. Carraro at very short notice, Mr. P. G. R. Wells, Miss Coralie Smythson’ and Miss I. Smythson. Madame Bendall conducted the conversation circle, Miss Mead received, and Miss Mackay, assistant secretary, superintended supper.
