HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY

Successful Card Party The "500’’ and bridge party held in the new Horticultural Hall, Lower Hutt, on Tuesday evening, was a great success. The party had been organised in aid of the building fund by the women’s committee of the horticultural society, assisted by members of the men’s committee, so Hint the stage was beautifully decorated with pot .plants, aud the hall was bright with pot plants, hydrangeas and bamboo. The women's committee, with Mrs. D. S. Patrick as convener, was responsible for the decoration. Mr. C. F. Pilcher and Sons, and Mr. H. Poole leut the pot plants. There were approximately 300 players present, and nearly 50 played in their homes. Mrs. D. S. Patrick, president of the women's committee, Lady Roberts, Mrs. J. AV. Andrews, Mayoress of Lower Hutt, and Mrs. AV. Nash were the hostesses for the evening. The commodious hall provided ample space for the large number present, the players being accommodated at a long table and a number of small ones. A savoury supper was provided by the women’s committee and served at the tables.
