Bowls Semi-finalists Found REMARKABLE LAST BOWL Postponed a day because of the rain, the champion of champions pairs competition of the Wellington Bowling Centre commenced yesterday in pleasant weather at Hataitai. Three rounds were played and the 19 entries representing every affiliated club were reduced to four—K'’lburn, Victoria, Wellington and Lyail Bay, —-who will meet in the semi-finals tins morning. . Bowls matches rarely arouse more interest among spectators than did tlie meeting of Seatoun (McAnally and Glennie) and Wellington (Shillson and fi. Ross) in the third round yesterday atternoon. The game was interesting tfirouguout and it came to a remarkable climax with the last bowl. An incident uuung the earlier stages was the achievement ot a seven by Seatoun on the loth head which raised them from three down to tour up. Seatoun was 19 and Wellington 14 on the 18th. During the playing or thQ last head Wellington was four down on the board. Seatoun lay one down and the jack was close between two bowls when Ross, the Wellington skip, stood ou tiie mat with his last wood. He cleverly trailed the jack across the head to the Wellington bowls and lay five shots, winning the match by one point. 1 rolongeu applause and admiring conversation toilowed Ross's deed. . J. Ross and F. Ross won the pairs championship of the Wellington chib, but sickness prevented the former from playing yesterday and A. R. Sliillson, a runnerup, took his place. The final between the winners of these semi-finals will commence at 2 p.m. EX-SOLDIERS’ FINAL Kelburn Rink Wins Kelburn won the final of the returned soldiers’ tournament played at the Wellington green yesterday afternoon, ihe constitution of the winning rink was altered for the last game. J. R. Smith, who was skip for all the previous games, was engaged in the champion of champions pairs*, and his place wae taken jy Foi’gie, number three. Bell, number twu, became number three and Van Stayeren filled Bell’s place. Twenty-one heads were played. At the conclusion ot the match the Hon. W. Perry congratulated the winners and runners-up.
