BEST SEASON YET

Manor Park Golf Club CONGESTION RELIEVED Largely due to the conversion of the links from 13 holes to an ,18-hole layout, which relieved congestion and resulted in greater interest on the part of members, last season was the most successful in the history of the Manor Park Golf Club. This was the general consensus of opinion at the annual meeting of the club held in Wellington last night. There was an attendance of about 60 members. The president, Mr. A. 8. T. Butler, said the opening of IS holes had relieved congestion and meant that the club could now grow. Before it was opened, the lay-out of the new course had received a good deal of criticism but since it had been played on it had received nothing but praise, except, perhaps, for a few minor points. The entirely new fairways were quite as good as the old ones. It had been thought, added Mr. Butler, that before they could consider a new clubhouse, laying water on to the links and other such matters, it would be necessary to have some certainty pf tenure. They had two years to run, and lie could now say, although arrangements had not yet been completed, that they were safe for another 12 years, aud possibly more. Now that they were certain of that, and seeing that the links were in first-class order, a matter which would have to be considered was extra accommodation. Possibly a new clubhouse could be built. The standard of play had definitely improved and financially the position of the club was much better.

Officers were elected as follow: — President, Mr. A. S. T. Butler; vicepresidents, Messrs. E. W. Brockett, A. Radford and E. A. Rodgers; lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr. J. L. Barnard ; club captain, Mr. L. Fitt; committee, Messrs. J. Barker, A. Clouston, V. Hay, It. Ewing, W. Packer; lion, auditor, Mr. A. Coekburn. The club will be officially opened for the season on Saturday, March 14. It was decided to change the end of the financial year from February 1 to December 31. At the annual nieeting of the women’s section of the club, held before the meeting of the full club, the following officers were elected: —Patron, Mr. R. S. Ahvard; club captain, Miss I). Fairbrother; vice-captain, Miss D. Nash; lion, secretary, Miss K. Kerr; committee, Mrs. J. L. Barnard, Misses M. Butler, M. MeDowall, and A. Yorston.
