PENTSTEMONS

Save a Few Plants For general bedding purposes it is best to raise cuttings of Pentstemons each autumn. Actually, however, this plant is just as much a perennial as a delphinium, and in most districts is quite hardy. While not wishing to encourage you to have many old Pentstemons about, a group or two in the mixed border or at the front of shrubs are an acquisition. So leave a few plants. Just cut off the flower stems and nothing more. Though the foliage may get a bit weather beaten, it will look quite cheerful through winter.

In early September, cut each shoot two-thirds of the way back and very soon there will be an outburst of young shoots.
