TO WASH BLANKETS
New blankets should be soaked in cold water for 24 hours before being washed, then be squeezed free of water and washed in the same way as old blankets. For each pair of blankets allow two tablespoons of powdered borax and four tablespoons of soft soap, Put these into a bucket or large dipper, pour boiling water on to them gradually, and stir hard until all the soap is dissolved. If the vessel is placed over the fire tlie process will be hastened. Pour tlie mixture into tlie washtub, add sufficient cold water to soak the blankets, and when quite cold put in the blankets. Leave them to soak for several hours; ail night if they are very soiled. Then wash them well. Squeeze as much of the soapy water out of them as possible, or put them through a wringer. Rinse thoroughly in three or four lots of cold water until no trace of soap remains, then hang them out on tlie line without wringing, This process keeps I hem very soft and white,
